Human Rights : protectors of human capabilities essential for the prosperity of humankind

The Bahá’í Community of Luxembourg had the opportunity to participate in the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights organized by the UNESCO Chair in Human Rights at the University of Luxembourg.

The event had the form of four 10 minute speeches from Professor Robert Harmsen (UNESCO Chair in Human Rights at the University of Luxembourg), from Mr David Weiss of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, from Fernanda Peréz of Amnesty International, and of a representative of the Bahá’í Community of Luxembourg, followed by a panel discussion animated by the questions of the public.

The contribution of the Bahá’í Community of Luxembourg tried to look at Human Rights as protectors of human capabilities essential for the prosperity of humankind. The link between spirituality, and in particular spiritual progress, with human rights was considered as an “interesting new angle” by the panelists, the public picked up with questions around spirituality and the role of religion, and a participant remarked that “I am older than the declaration of human rights itself … and it is the first time that I hear on a panel about a link between spirituality and human rights.”.
